Use of Technology as a student.
In school we were taught using Microsoft Word to help us learn how to type. In elementary school we practiced our typing in Technology class once a week. We were taught how to use the appropriate hand position in order to type efficiently. We were quizzed by having our hands covered with a cardboard box so we could not cheat and look at the keys. We were timed at how fast and correctly we could type.
Typing helped us with our spelling and grammar. We were able to express ourselves in another way besides writing on paper. Since being taught the basics of Word, we use it daily. We type not only in word, but in online documents, PowerPoint’s, and communication on the computer. The typing class in elementary school prepared us for typing in our daily lives now.

I agree with this post. Word has helped me become a better typist and speller. Many MS office products such as MS publisher have also helped me develop and publish websites.

I remember in my typing classes in elementary school the focus was on learning how to type "correctly" using the home keys, etc. They even timed our words per minute. The funny thing is that my words per minute are higher now that I don't try to use the home keys and just type. You don't need to know something like that to type fast, at least in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI think that's really good that your elementary school focused so much on typing. My school would have us type stories and that's about it. They didn't really teach us how to type or use powerpoint or anything.
ReplyDeleteIn my elementary grades too i can remember going to the computer lab as well to practice out typing skills. We would have to turn in assignments which allowed me to practice using the technology at an early age.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in elementary school we used this program called "Type to Learn." It helped us with lessons and games. In middle school we used the cardboard boxes too, but I hated those.
